In Memory of...
Rosalie Carpenter
It is with great sadness that I announce my dear friend
Rosalie Carpenter 89 passed away on May 26th 2010. Rosalie was a
great activist who was with LCA from the very beginning. I
remember Rosalie at LCA’s very first civil disobedience action.
We took over the San Bernadino Mayors and council offices. The
San Bernadino city shelter had been selling animals to research
for over 30 years but because of Rosalie and others putting
their own freedom on the line the city stopped the practice of
pound seizure. By Rosalie’s actions that day, countless dogs and
cats were spared a life of unimaginable pain at the hands of
vivisectionists.
I will never forget the petite little English woman whose
British accent would brighten even the darkest nights. Rosalie’s
eagerness, her passion and compassion and enthusiasm was
inspiring to everyone around her. She was always there for me,
LCA and the animals. No matter the weather or the distances
traveled you could count on Rosalie to be there for the animals.
She was a tireless advocate on their behalf. She always had my
back and for that I will be forever grateful.
Rosalie touched the lives of everyone who was privileged enough
to have known her. She will be dearly missed but never
forgotten. Rosalie’s spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of
everyone who stands up for the animals. Rosalie spent her life
making a difference and bringing peace to all beings. May she
finally find some of the peace she brought to so many others.
Rosalie is survived by her sons Roger and Mark and grandsons
David and Daniel.
I will miss you my dear friend. LCA will honor your memory by
continuing to fight until every cage is empty.
Sincerely,

Gretchen Wyler
Gretchen was a long time close friend of the animals. She had
given the last 40 years of her life to fighting animal
exploitation in many arenas of the animal rights movement. She
fought very hard on these issues with many successes and some
disappointments. She was one of the first true warriors who took
a stance when it was not popular. She will be sorely missed by
LCA and the animals. Gretchen was a very close friend of Chris
DeRose's for 27 years.
Rita Bernier
Rita was a dear friend of Chris DeRose’s for almost 30
years. She was a tough Scotch-Irish woman who would never give
up fighting for what she believed in – the animals - even though
she would get stiff resistance from some more welfare oriented
people. She spoke out on behalf of the ALF when it was not
fashionable. She was a member of LCA since it’s inception almost
25 years ago. We at LCA will miss her very much. She was a true
friend!
John Dresdan
John was a close friend of Chris DeRose for 33 years. He
was a very kind compassionate guy who was compared to a
tough Charlie Bronson yet had a soft spot for animals. He is
survived by his adopted friend and companion of 15 years –
little Maggie. John owned the SPY SHOP on Sunset in West
Hollywood and would give or lend equipment for LCA’s
investigations with only one promise “LCA had to bring down the
bad guys!" He is missed by everyone that knew him especially
Maggie.
Cliff
Kaminsky Tribute
In
2004, the animal rights movement lost Cliff Kaminsky. Although
we knew Cliff for a little less than two years, the impact he
left on our organization will last forever. To honor Cliff’s
memory, his family has created The Cliff Kaminsky Foundation,
dedicated to supporting the causes Cliff passionately struggled
for during his lifetime, specifically animal rights and shelter
organizations.
Please visit
www.cliffkaminsky.org to learn more about Cliff and ways
in which you can help give animals a fighting chance!
