GREAT NEWS! LCA's investigation into World Kennels, a puppy mill located in Los Angeles County, resulted in surrender of dogs. Over 50 dogs were released directly to LCA and Best Friends.

The LCA investigation into Southern California puppy mills, reported by CBS reporter David Goldstein, resulted in a re-inspection of World Kennels located in Lancaster. 402 dogs were found there living in inhumane conditions. The County has ordered World Kennels to reduce the number of dogs to 100 or else be shutdown.

LCA has uncovered that LA County is riddled with puppy mills like World Kennels. These mills are supplying pet stores, such as Posh Puppy, located in Beverly Hill and Tarzana. LCA, Best Friends, and many dedicated animal lovers protested Posh Puppy pet stores for over five months exposing the pet store-puppy mill connection and spreading the message "ADOPT-DON'T SHOP!" World Kennels is one of Posh Puppy's primary suppliers, providing puppies that sell for up to $4000. Both Posh Puppy pet stores are no longer selling live animals.

LCA JOINS FORCES WITH BEST FRIENDS ANIMAL SOCIETY
TO PUT AN END TO PUPPY STORES IN LOS ANGELES!

LCABF

Last Chance for Animals joined forces with Best Friends Animal Society to announce “Puppy-Store-Free LA,” a campaign which will fight the sale, breeding and importation of puppy mill dogs, beginning in the Greater Los Angeles area.  A news conference held in Los Angeles on July 9, 2008 kicked off the coalition’s national effort to stop pet stores from selling puppies supplied by puppy mills.  Both groups participate in weekly protests against Los Angeles pet stores; LCA’s Special Investigations Unit supplies the investigative evidence and Best Friends provides vet care, spay/neuter and placement of dogs rescued from puppy mills.  The goals of Puppy-Store-Free LA is to educate the public to adopt, not shop, when choosing a pet, and to establish Los Angeles as a national model for putting an end to the puppy mill industry and the pet stores they supply.

LCA’s puppy mill investigations in LA County led to the exposure of World Kennels in May, 2008. World Kennels supplied puppies to the recently closed high-end, Posh Puppy stores in Beverly Hills and Tarzana.  LCA, Best Friends, and many dedicated animal lovers protested Posh Puppy pet stores for over five months and it paid off; they are no longer selling dogs!  More pet stores that are supplied by puppy mills are being targeted by protests throughout the Los Angeles area to achieve a Puppy-Store-Free LA.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1) Donate! Donating to LCA allows our Special Investigations Unit to continue investigating and exposing animal abuse and exploitation.

2) Volunteer! Contact us for information on the next protest orientation scheduled for July 31, 2008. Not in L.A.? Start a protest in your town. Email campaigns@lcanimal.org for more info.

3) Spread the message, "Adopt-Don't Shop!" 99% of pet stores are supplied by puppy mills. Your local shelter and rescue groups have plenty of puppies, all kinds of dogs, and many purebreds.
