Victory: Prada Commits to Going Fur-Free!

foxThe latest luxury fashion brand to ditch fur The Prada Group (which includes Prada, Miu Miu, Church's, and Car Shoe) announced Wednesday, May 22nd that they will no longer use real animal fur in any of their products starting with their Spring/Summer 2020 Women's collection!

Prada's announcement is further proof of the growing movement towards a fur-free fashion future, and more and more luxury brands are listening to their consumers demands for cruelty-free products. Prada joins numerous luxury designers who have all denounced the fur industry's barbaric practices and abandoned fur from their designs, including Chanel, Versace, Gucci, Michael Kors, Coach, and Burberry.

In a press release, Prada's co-chief executive officer and lead creative director said: "The Prada Group is committed to innovation and social responsibility [...] Focusing on innovative materials will allow the company to explore new boundaries of creative design while meeting the demand for ethical products."

The fur-free movement has also led many legislators to author bills aimed at prohibiting the sale and manufacture of fur. While California is on track to becoming the first state in the U.S. to ban fur with the Fur Products Prohibition Act (AB 44), several California cities have already prohibited fur — including West Hollywood, Berkeley, San Francisco, and most recently Los Angeles. New York City is also on its way to joining the growing list of fur-free cities with the introduction of Intro 1476, a bill to ban the sale of fur apparel in NYC.
