California: Urge Your Senators to Support SB 313, the Circus Cruelty Prevention Act

Senate Bill 313, the Circus Cruelty Prevention Act, is headed to the California Senate for a vote! If passed and enacted into law, the bill will ban the use of wild and exotic animals in circuses — but it won't happen without your help!

Introduced by California Sen. Ben Hueso (D-San Diego), the bill previously passed the California Senate Judiciary Committee with a 7-0 vote. 

Wild and exotic animals used in circus acts are routinely exploited and abused for the sake of "entertainment". Forced to perform unnatural and demeaning performances in front of an audience (such as standing on their heads, jumping through rings of fire, or riding bicycles), these helpless creatures must suffer a lifetime of violent training practices, including being savagely beaten, whipped, and even electrocuted, in order to force them into submission.

Animals used in circus acts endure constant confinement and are forced to live in deplorable conditions without basic necessities like adequate food, water, and veterinary care. These animals are also deprived of the social and physical stimulation they so desperately require. As a result of this horrific mistreatment, many circus animals display abnormal behaviors like swaying, rocking, and head bobbing — all of which are signs of extreme psychological distress.

California: Take action and help ban circus cruelty statewide! Call your California State Senator and urge them to vote YES on SB 313!
